Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long have you been doing this?

A: Sheila Thomas, the owner of STResources, joined the IT profession as a database
programmer in 1986. She has also functioned as a microcomputer specialist,
where she specified, managed, installed, and repaired computer hardware for
5 years before returning as a data analyst. In addition, she managed her own computer sales and service business.
Q: Why should I consider you to be an expert?
A: Sheila Thomas received her masters degree in management from the University
of Wisconsin - Green Bay in 2005. While there, she wrote Interpersonal Skills
For IT Professionals. This is the training that is used by STResources. A 2 ½ day
version of this is currently available from Human Resources Development Press (HRD Press). This is a thoroughly researched publication, which took over 2
years to produce. It started with the question: "Why do so many IT projects cause
such pain?" The answer, and resulting book, is "Most IT people are of a specific
personality type. Many are not, by nature, team players. They also commonly
lack proper training in interpersonal skills. There needs to be training that is
currently available specifically for IT people."
Q: Could you give me the name of someone I can contact who has contracted
with you?
A: Human Resources Development Press (HRD Press) of Amhurst, MA has
published the training book that was produced by the owner of STResources.
You can find them at hrdpress.com.
Q: What makes you different from all the others out there?
A: The broad experience and in depth knowledge acquired through education and
many years of hands-on work experience gives STResources a solid background
for understanding the problems and providing the most appropriate and effective
solutions for IT project success. The skills we provide are learned interactively so
that they can be better retained and transferred back to the workplace.
Q: What value are you going to bring to my company?
A: The skills acquired from the workshops have been specifically tailored to the
type person typically drawn to IT. The increased collaboration based on better
awareness of differing personality types, communication, conflict resolution, and
trust that your staff develop and bring back to the workplace will contribute to
projects that more effectively meet your business needs and satisfy your customers,
helping your bottom line. For your IT staff, increased satisfaction at work will
improve staff retention and reduce burn-out.
Q: How many people should I have in a training session?
A: The training is specifically tailored for 6-12 people. Either an existing group or
a new team could benefit from this. If there are too many people, there is not
enough time for everyone to actively participate. If there are too few people, there is not enough experience among your staff to provide information for the training
process. Large groups can be divided into smaller teams for training purposes.
